The Apopka Chief Newsletter: December 5 Edition

Welcome to The Apopka Chief weekly newsletter!
Happy December! This is Sarah Merly, an editorial assistant and reporter for the Chief. I am so thankful for all the opportunities I had this week to meet so many wonderful people in the Apopka community—from the grand opening of Jersey Mike’s to last night’s leadership gala (story incoming!).
One of my favorite community gatherings, though, was our first-ever member event at Soulicious Vegan Kitchen!

Members—people from the Apopka community who help support our paper—sampled unique flavors from Soulicious founders Tiffany and Dejon Everson’s restaurant Tuesday night at Hall’s on Fifth (my favorite was the rose wine cranberry cheesecake mousse). I so appreciated the opportunity to meet and thank the ones who have helped me continue living my dream as a reporter in this great city! If you’d like to learn more about becoming a member, visit our website here.
Thank you so much for reading about what makes our community so special. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Apopka Fact of the Week:
“Bay Ridge, an early community about three miles northeast of Zellwood, came into existence almost overnight in 1885-86. About 30 families settled there and began farming. One of these early settlers was Henry Schopke, a general merchandiser.”
